Dr. Ray has been a Family Physician since 1978 with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group at Kaiser Permanente, San Diego.  He is Regional Assistant Medical Director for Business Management, Regional Physician Director for Patient Education and Health Promotion, and is Physician Director of the Positive Choice Wellness Center, Department of Health Education, San Diego. He has served as Assistant Chief in the Department of Family Medicine, is a Past President of Kaiser Foundation Hospital, San Diego, and was an elected member of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group Board of Directors from 1997-2008.

 He is a Clinical Professor, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at UCSD School of Medicine.  He served as President of the San Diego Academy of Family Physicians and President of the San Diego County Medical Society. Dr. Ray is a Trustee of the California Medical Association, an Alternate Delegate in the American Medical Association, and is a member of the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation Board of Directors. Additionally, Dr. Ray is an Expert Medical Reviewer for the Medical Board of California and is a Certified Medical Coder of the American Academy of Professional Coders.

 Dr. Ray is the author of many articles on Prevention, Health Promotion, Patient Education, Obesity and Tobacco Cessation. He was California Family Physician of the Year in 2002. He was again voted “Top Doctor” in Family Medicine inSan Diegoin 2010 by San Diego Magazine. Dr. Ray and his wife reside in San Diego.

 Dr. Ray was born in New York City and received his B.A. in 1969 from Brooklyn College.  He attended the Faculty of Medicine, Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium and was awarded the M.D. degree in 1976.  His internship was performed at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada in 1976.  A residency in Family Medicine was completed at the Jewish General Hospital, McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 1978. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine in the United States and Canada.
